What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a government initiative designed to promote sustainable development and improve people's wellbeing by providing up to 300 units of free electricity each month to one crore households across India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024, the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is part of India's push towards increased use of renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, to help reduce electricity costs, carbon emissions, and reliance on traditional energy sources.

 

What are the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Financial assistance includes a 60% subsidy for solar systems up to 2 kW, and 40% for systems from 2 to 3 kW capacity. Subsidies are capped at a maximum of 3 kW system size, amounting to up to INR 78,000.

Steps to avail of the Surya Ghar Yojana

 

01. Registration

To sign up for a journey towards a sustainable future, visit the official web page (https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/) and provide some basic information such as the state where you live, electricity distribution company, customer and mobile number, and email address

 

02. Application

Once you are registered, simply log in from your mobile and consumer number to complete an application for a shiny new rooftop solar unit

 

03. Installation approval

Choose any of the registered vendors once your DISCOM gives you the green light to set up your solar unit

 

04. Net meter application

Once your brand-new rooftop solar unit has been mounted up, also enter the installation specifics to apply for the net meter

 

05. Commissioning and subsidy

After DISCOM has approved and given the green light to your installation and your net meter is completely set up, you will be given a commissioning certificate. Simply upload your bank account information and a cancelled check through the official portal. Your subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.
