Tata Power All-Prepared to Meet Increased Power Demand in Mumbai amidst Heatwave Alert

-    Expects overall power demand in Mumbai to peak at 4,500 MW

 

-    TPC-Ds power demand to peak at 1,100 MW

Mumbai, February 25th, 2025: Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company supplying electricity to 8 lakh consumers in the city of Mumbai is all-ready to meet the meet the anticipated rise in power demand in the city amidst heat wave alert for the region.

 

Utilising its in-house AI/ML tools for accurate demand forecasting and power optimization, the company expects overall power demand for the city of Mumbai to peak at 4,500 MW, up from 4,307 MW last year. In its own Distribution network, the peak demand is expected to reach 1,100 MW, compared to 1,063 MW last year. The company is ensuring sufficient power availability for its consumers by having a versatile source portfolio of Thermal, Hydro, Gas, Solar, and Wind and has secured 1,630 MW in terms of supply. Additionally, it is in the process of tying up an additional 200 MW to address renewable energy variability.

 

As part of the preparation, the company is monitoring of all transformers, feeder pillars, and cables using thermal scanning, and has been optimization load by changing normal operating points (NOPs). Safety and automation measures include CCTV footage analysis using AI/ML for a safer workplace, with alerts for oil leakages, hotspots, housekeeping, and intruders. Additionally, advanced communication technologies have been implemented to increase automation and ensures faster supply restoration to customers.
